Baby sucking her thumb.

The "Fire Pig" title is from Chinese astrology; this is the year of the Fire Pig. The Chinese New Year is sometime in mid-February, so any baby born between February 18, 2007 and February 7, 2008 is a Fire Pig baby. The animals (e.g. the pig) are on a 12-year cycle, but the Fire Pig only occurs once every 60 years. The pig is the luckiest of all the animals, and it is the only one that doesn't have any "enemies" (incompatible matches with other years). And the Fire Pig is especially lucky -- long life, wealth, etc. I'm not into reading horoscopes or anything, but it's just a fun bit of trivia -- kind of like knowing that I'm a Libra (the most boring and inanimate of all the Zodiac signs).

Gabi "knows," although I doubt she really understands. If asked "Where is the baby?", she will lift up my shirt and stick her finger in my bellybutton and declare "Right here!" When we first told her that there was a baby in Mommy's tummy, she asked to see it and was somewhat distressed when we told her that she couldn't, exclaiming "Stuck in there!" as she tried to pry open my bellybutton. She does love to take care of her baby dolls, and many of her friends have little siblings now, so at least she understands the concept of a baby (even if it doesn't translate to baby-takes-away-Mommy's-attention-and-cries-in-the-middle-of-the-night comprehension).
Halfway there! Mom at almost 20 weeks.
Following the Trends
Our new baby is trendy already. In Gabi's playgroup of 18 toddlers, I am the seventh mom to announce a pregnancy. All of us are having the same gender second child as first child.
In Gabi's Children's Morning Out class of 6 toddlers, I am the last to become pregnant. Every single new baby in the class is a girl! Michael found it interesting that genetics are "determined" by social networks and associations with friends.

I know genetics are completely internal, but it would be interesting to find out how much of an influence external stimuli play. I mean, when many women live together most times they are all on the same cycle. I wonder if similar factors come into play?
science learns new thing every day!! ;-)
Wow, this is incredible. We find out tomorrow if it's a boy or a girl. I can't wait. And it looks like our little one will be due only a few days after yours.
In response to some verbal comments: No, of course genetics are not actually affected by social networks; the new baby genders are just a coincidence. The 8th round-two pregnancy in our playgroup has just been announced, and we fully expect her to break the trend of double-genders (afterall, *someone* has to!).
