The Carolinas

Charleston, SC
Historic Charleston is a very charming city. We certainly enjoyed our day of exploration!

Charleston Market

The famous sweetgrass weavers sell their goods at the market.
Gabi found a basket and a bracelet that she liked.

The market downtown sells all sorts of things,
from perfume to clothes to candles to dolls.

We saw some horse-and-carriages in downtown Charleston, too.

We ate lunch at a deli in the market area.
Gabi enjoyed wiping her face and nose.

Waterfront Park

We walked to Waterfront Park for the afternoon.
A dog was playing in this fountain at the park entrance.
Seriously, seeing all the dogs was the highlight of Gabi's day.

Gabi running through Waterfront Park.
The palmetto tree is the state tree of South Carolina.

This pineapple fountain is in the middle of Waterfront Park.

Gabi stood on this planter to watch the boats sail by.

Gabi flying in the wind near a pier.

Gabi found a leaf and showed me that it belongs on the tree above her.

MUSC Courtyard
We went to the MUSC courtyard to wait for Daddy to finish his interview. Gabi took a long nap in the car. When she awoke, we ran around the courtyard area looking at all the flowers until Daddy came outside to meet us.

Durham, NC
After such a busy day of walking and exploration in Charleston, we needed a day of rest. I had originally planned for us to walk around the Duke campus, at the very least, and hopefully tour a bit of the Raleigh/Durham area as well... but as it was, we just took it easy and left time for a long nap in the middle of the day. Our hotel was just a block from the Duke hospital, so we did walk to the Children's Clinic building (next to the main hospital, but much more inviting) and check out the lobby and play area there.

Duke Children's

Gabi is clearly tired today.
"I'm tired" sign: right middle fingers in mouth; left hand pulling on hair.
When asked, "Where are the fish?" Gabi only had energy to point.

"Choo-choo!"
The train display did elicit a fair amount of excitement.

Gabi wasn't so big on the dollhouse...

We went to the outside play area, although it was a bit cold and drizzly.
Gabi enjoyed running across the bridge.

Gabi having fun outside, despite the cool air and mist.
